ook no further than the success of television shows like American Idol, Glee, Te Voice, and Dancing with the Stars, and you’ll see
that the performing arts are alive and well in pop culture. But hidden in the incredible singing and often evidenced in the dancing are messages contrary to many Christian values. How can Christians redeem the performing arts, to “praise his name with dancing, making melody to him with tambourine and lyre”? (Psalm 149:3)

works. Rick continues, “We’re always able to find a theme, in the works we choose, to expand and share the gospel at the end of the program.” Recently, a staff member’s wife invited her co-workers to come see Family Life’s production of Annie. At the end of the
production, when the gospel was given, one of them began to cry and asked the Christian friend if they could get together later in the week. At that get-together, she was presented with more biblical truth and is now considering the claims of Christ!
Family Life Ministries, headquartered in Bath, NY, believes that performing arts can be a tremendous tool not only to train young people and adults but also to use the arts as evangelistic tools. Tis ministry works closely with young people, training them in drama, music, and dance and encouraging them to use their God-given talents in service to Him. CEO Rick Snavely shares, “It’s rewarding to watch teens and pre-teens develop skills that give them confidence on stage and in front of a group. We’ve had many parents thank us for helping their children, even watched parents rejoice in tears as their children with learning disabilities begin to excel as part of a production.”

Rick quips, “Our facility is a jack of many trades, and a master of none.” Family Life is looking to God’s leading on a proposed new building with state-of-the-art staging, lighting, and sound, allowing its performing arts ministry to shine. Te ministry’s goal is for the new facility to become a destination for the region. As God continues to bless Family Life’s ministry, Ambassador Advisors looks forward to watching both the on-stage performances and the behind-the-scenes efforts that present the gospel through the talents of many.
