In the spring, everything seems greener, the sky seems bluer, and the sweet smells of honeysuckle give the world a sense of freshness that can only be experienced at this time of year. I grew up in a small steel town in western Pennsylvania, where my mother used this season to “spring clean.” Windows were opened, she purged things collected over the winter and then diligently washed and scrubbed our home with Lysol. Strangely, looking back, it seemed like every other mother was doing the same thing, and the smell of Lysol mingled with that of honeysuckle as I walked back from school!
After experiencing a year like we did in 2020, I feel like everything needs a good spring cleaning. As more people get vaccinated for COVID-19, they are slowly beginning to come out again. Life is beginning to return to what we experienced before the pandemic. Tis will take time, but every step forward is welcome. Overall, this re-emergence will be good for our economy and the markets.

I
t was a beautiful and sunny spring day as I was sitting outside two years ago. I heard a
sound from a bird flying overhead that I never
heard before. I looked up and—not believing what I was seeing—was treated to the vision of a beautiful
bald eagle flying over our home. It made a couple of circles above me, long enough for me to take a few pictures. Majestic and distinctive in the sound it made, the bird spread out its wings and soared on the wind. Tis experience brought to mind the verse from Exodus 19, “I bore you on eagles’ wings, and brought you to Myself.”
